Entering online sweepstakes can be a fun and rewarding hobby. Watching the screen light up as the word Congratulations pops up or getting a winning email or letter or prize in the mail is the most fun of all. But, there are some things you should consider before you enter online sweepstakes.

Filling in all Required Fields

Make sure to complete all required fields in the online sweepstakes entry form. Many forms will mark the required fields in some way so you know which are mandatory. Other forms have no such indications. If that is the case then fill out every field of the form. If you are uncomfortable with any of the questions that are asked skip that online sweepstakes and move on.

What Information Not To Give

Never give out your social security number, credit card number, or drivers license number on an online sweepstakes entry form. There is no need at all for a sponsor to request that type of information from you. If you are asked for that information then do not enter that online sweepstakes because it could be a scam.

If you win an online sweepstakes you may be required to give your social security number or a copy of your drivers license to the sponsor for tax purposes and/or as identification but that request will come in the form of an official document and will require a notary to prove it is an official document.

Double Check Your Information Before Submitting

Double check the information before you hit the submit or enter button. Make sure you have typed your mailing address, phone, and email address correctly. If you misspell any of these important requirements you may miss out on being notified of a grand prize in an online sweepstakes.

Form Filler Programs

Programs such as Roboform, TypeItIn, Keyboard Express, or Firefox Add-ons like Autofill Form, Formfiller, or iMacros for Firefox can make filling out entry forms much easier but can also get your disqualified. Not all online sweepstakes allow you to enter using a form filler. Some see it as an automated form of entering and require that you manually keystroke your entry for an online sweepstakes.
